Containerised data centres and rooms
If bricks and mortar space is lacking or you need to scale up a data centre or switch room quickly or for a short time only, talk to us about building a flexible and rapidly deployable modular data centre.
Traditionally housed in refurbished shipping containers, modular data centres can also be bespoke-built to your specification. Either way, they contain all the features and systems you need and expect from a standard data centre environment, from power, connectivity and HVAC to security, fire protection and disaster recovery.
Modular server rooms
Whether you need a 12 rack communications room or a full scale 20,000 sq.ft Colocation suite, we can help.
We design and build modular server rooms throughout the UK, from London, Manchester and Leeds to Edinburgh, Glasgow and even Aberdeen. We even have a number of installations as far afield as Sweden, Norway, Belgium, France and Italy, to name but a few places.
Whatever scale your installation needs to be, we use the highest quality materials, from Isoclad panels and Kingspan raised access flooring systems to Robust and Bradbury door systems.
Fire-rated and highly secure
All our modular rooms are fitted with Firestop Insulated Fire-Resistant Panels from Isoclad Ltd. Firestop is ideal for wall systems, used either horizontally or vertically, and for ceilings, and is manufactured to an ISO 9001:2015 quality assurance system.
The Firestop Insulated Fire-Resistant Panel has a Rockwool (European fire classification Class A1 rated) core and, due to its superior fire ratings and non-combustibility, is especially suitable for high fire-risk locations and to comply with Building Regulations.
The non-combustibility of Rockwool, combined with its steel facings, gives Firestop panels a Class ‘0’ rating and, according to the new European classifications for reaction to fire, a Class A2 rating.
Mezzanine flooring
In a busy data centre environment, space is valuable. For this reason, many of our data centre-build clients opt to build a steel mezzanine above their modular computer room so as to maximise vertical space.
4ON can design, supply and install a steel mezzanine above the roof of your existing or new modular computer room. We've completed many projects, from office spaces to ultra heavy loading plant rooms, all installed above the computer room and technical area.
In many cases, we've built large spans of up to 20 metres with no upright columns, thereby maximising rack space and floor layout. For these jobs, we usually work on site to fabricate the system, due to the sheer weight and size of the assembled components.
TEMPEST specifications/silencing
At 4ON, we're well versed in the construction of TEMPEST (Telecommunications Electronics Materials Protected from Emanating Spurious Transmissions) specifications, with several small and medium projects under our belt, all completed with excellent results and a 100% pass rate.
Why is this necessary? Because electrical wiring and telephone lines can transmit these signals by conduction. Wall surfaces can vibrate, as can pipes, beams, ducts and other such materials. The only solution is to 'silence' the equipment or actively distort emanations.
Raised access flooring
When floor space is at a premium, raised access flooring maximises the potential of every square inch by allowing both electrical and mechanical services and pedestrian traffic or hardware to use the same space.
Talk to us about the design, supply and installation of raised access flooring for your building.
Our partner, Kingspan, is an industry leader with a long heritage of developing flexible flooring systems for large-scale spaces. With applications including commercial premises, data centres and retail spaces, systems have air plenums and high-end floor finishes built-in.
Fire detection and suppression
Early fire detection can make all the difference between a small, manageable incident and a large scale emergency situation that poses a risk to assets and lives.
We provide industry-leading fire detection and suppression systems for your modular rooms and installations, giving you peace of mind that your assets are well protected.
Access control and CCTV
The security of your data centre or hardware rooms is critical; you need visibility and control over who can access these areas and what each user profile is entitled to do.
Our access control systems make sure only authorised personnel can access your secure environments, while configurable profiles allow you to set permissions on an individual or group basis.
As an additional layer of backup, CCTV patrols your environment, alerting you to any unusual or suspicious activity.
UPS
What would happen if your power source failed and you had no backup? Or if a power surge threatened to kick your computer offline? A power interruption isn't a scenario you want to think about but it's one you need to plan for.
UPS, or Uninterruptible Power Supply, is a crucial component of your data centre or computer room build, providing reliable and consistent backup power while you restore normal service.
From small battery backups that kick in to keep systems running for a short time to more robust cells that can maintain uptime for hours, we'll provide and install the right containerised UPS system for your needs.
Generators
You can't control everything and sometimes the worst does happen; your main power source fails altogether and your provider can't restore service immediately.
We own and manage our own data centres so we know exactly what we're talking about when we say that onsite power generation is indispensable as part of your disaster recovery plan.
Our engineers will install and maintain your own diesel-powered backup generator, ready to kick into action the moment your primary source fails.
Switchgear
As data centre owners and managers, experience has shown the importance of effective power distribution throughout the facility.
Switchgear puts you in control, giving you the ability to isolate specific hardware for maintenance or giving you capacity to expand without powering down the whole room.
Whether off-the-shelf and reconfigured or completely bespoke, the right switchgear is an investment that will keep repaying you over the life of your data centre.
HVAC
Maintaining adequate air temperature and humidity is another critical part of your build which needs to be factored in right from the start.
Our design process takes full account of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) considerations, based on the servers or hardware your modular space will contain and any additional requirements.
